HSC Minutes 10.9.24

Updated: Mar 7

6:08pm

In Attendance: Sarah, Carrie, Dan, Joe, Debbie, Kendra, Miriam, Kirsten, Mary

PRINCIPLE UPDATE

  • In the middle of Drive for Schools.

  • Sports are going well - only 1 week left in this sports season. Sports rally on Friday to get kids excited about season 2 (boys basketball & girls soccer).

  • Awards assembly on Friday to acknowledge kids doing well in various classes.

  • Field trips for 6th & 7th graders recently happened.

  • Movie Night was well attended. Dance coming up on 11/1 for Dia De Los Muertos.

  • College & Career week coming up - big event at Cabrillo, great place to bring kids to get exposure. Transportation is available from school.

  • Starting next Monday is Carey Corazon (for Spanish speaking students/families to learn more about the school system).

  • Joe will probably host disc golf again - day TBD after sports tryouts for season 2 are done. Discs are donated.

  • 6 week grades are out - report cards don’t totally reflect what is actually happening. The words Exceeding = A, Meeting = B, Approaching = C, Beginning = D, Incomplete = F. Work in progress - trying to get both a letter grade and a word grade for each class. B40 is the first school in the district to adopt this system.

  • Still need a President and Vice President for HSC! Reviewed Bylaws and roles of HSC officers. Still need to recruit for these positions. Discussion of what events the HSC has done. Opportunity to get parent volunteers to ask local businesses for sponsorship - restaurant nights, banners on fence/in gym.

  • Tamalada order forms sent home with students. ELAC suggested that paper is more effective to reach wider range of parents.

TREASURER REPORT:

Budget

  • Worksheet up to date

  • Expenses: $16,816.12

  • Income: $877 (D4S) + $805 (PayPal) + $2109 (Hedgecock) = $3791

  • 8 teachers have requested reimbursements to date

  • Need to understand/reconcile $5k Lifelab expenditure (Katy)

Drive for Schools, approx. $1700 collected. More pending.

  • PayPal is very clunky.

Money for buses? Check with Katy re: what is available.

Tamalada purchase process works!

Teachers are eligible for $400 per year reimbursement from HSC. Debbi to remind teachers that this is available.

New Business:

Palace Office donates $250 per teacher at PVUSD. Dan to ask owners if they could consider donating to B40.

Links in text don’t work! Debbi to check on this. Links in text need to go directly to whatever is being communicated (Beeline or Zoom Mtg, etc).

Funding Request: Field Trip 6/7/8th grade for Shakespeare SC at Vet’s Hall in December. $1 ticket to hold the tickets (seems like money is returned as tickets are free). $400 request. Motion by Miriam, 2nd by Kirsten. Approved.

Funding Request: B40 t-shirts for 6th graders with “Class of”. Mary requests that 8th graders get as well. Joe suggests that there are B40 shirts available for 8th graders who want them. Promote wearing them during Spirit Weeks, etc. 8th graders could “order” shirts if they want them. Look back at cost from last year. What about Happy Valley or other kids that come in not in 6th grade? Harbor HS gives out t-shirts at 9th grade orientation & sells the extra at sports events, etc. Maybe have kids design the logo? Consider for next meeting.

Warriors Basketball fundraiser - discuss at next month’s meeting.

Washington D.C. trip inquiry from parents

Meeting adjourn @ 7:19pm
